The characters on this kite read 'Sumitomo Zaibatsu'. Kites are not only objects of pure design, in the past kites have also served as little flying advertisements, bringing local businesses to the attention of kite-watchers. This cheeky kite references the Zaibatsu family corporations that grew during the Meiji restoration and bankrolled Japan's war campaigns up to their dissolution after the WW2.
