Exhibition opening: James Tylor and Aidan Hartshorn

27 Feb 2025

We're delighted to invite you to the opening celebration of James Tylor: Tapa-arra Through the Landscape, and Aidan Hartshorn: Altered Currents at N.Smith Gallery.

James Tylor's Tapa-arra Through the Landscape traces Indigenous roads, songlines, and trade routes that have connected Aboriginal nations for thousands of years. Focusing on Kaurna roads in South Australia the series highlights their cultural significance and enduring presence. Each photograph is cut in half, symbolising the path of least resistance through the land.

Aidan Hartshorn’s Altered Currents explores the impact of the Snowy Hydro Scheme on Walgalu Country. His diamond shield forms, adorned with refracted water patterns, reflect the tension between energy production, water diversion, and cultural erasure. Hartshorn challenges how progress can coexist with the preservation of Country and culture.

Join James and Aidan on Thurs 27 February 6-8pm in our gallery at 15 Foster Street, Surry Hills to celebrate the opening of both exhibitions.

No RSVP necessary. All welcome.
