leaves on the sea, BLEED: Perth-Taipei Residency
'To index is to fix, to point out, to sort, to organize, to categorize into meaning. The index signifies, it indicates, it declares.'

Tom Blake has returned from a residency at Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei as part of PICA’s 2024 International Studio Exchange Program.

During the residency Tom presented a new body of work titled ‘leaves on the sea’ in the Cross Gallery at Treasure Hill drawing on themes of opacity, fragmentation, repetition and the movement of water.

As part of the residency Tom also developed ‘leaves in the stream’ a new commission for BLEED comprising a series of looping videos, drawings, and writing, including a series of fragmentary poems written for the project by Taipei-based filmmaker Tsai Ming-liang.
