MA Vessel SL, EV Linen Press Window pairs windows and screens that depict both landscape and interior views. The domestic interior is drawn from a work by Vuillard featuring the artist’s mother and a linen cupboard. These elements are arranged alongside a vessel inscribed with the letters MA and two vases—one containing banksias and the other orchids. Banksias have long appeared in my work as symbols of childbirth and motherhood, referencing the fact that my son’s placenta is buried beneath a banksia tree in our Marrickville backyard.
