Casey Chen’s new exhibition continues his exploration of nostalgia, memory, and the objects through which we construct a sense of the past.
Across a new series of plates and wall works, Casey draws together references from art history, decorative traditions, popular culture, and his own lived experience. Familiar images and motifs are reworked through his distinctive visual language, shifting between the personal and collective, and considering how objects become vessels for memory, sentiment, and cultural identity.Casey’s practice is grounded in an ongoing fascination with ceramics and the histories they carry. Here, the plate becomes both artwork and artefact: an object associated with domestic life, collecting, display, and inheritance. By bringing these histories into conversation with contemporary imagery, Casey Chen creates works that feel at once familiar and unexpected, reflecting on what we choose to remember, preserve, and carry with us.
