Kate was commissioned by the ACT Government to create BLOOM (2024), a major public artwork for the Canberra Hospital’s new Critical Services Building, curated by Creative Road.
Developed over two years in collaboration with the Creative Road team, BLOOM began as a series of 38 acrylic paintings on canvas. Through successive layers of translucent, watery paint, Kate built intricate textures and complex colours across the works.
The paintings were subsequently digitised and translated into vinyl wall graphics, installed across approximately 130 interior locations throughout the building. The project brings Kate’s explorations of colour, texture and abstraction into a public healthcare setting, integrating her work into the everyday experience of the hospital’s interior spaces.
