Kate was a finalist in the 2023 Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award, marking her third time as a finalist that year. The exhibition brought together artists exploring the possibilities of works on paper, recognising diverse approaches to the medium.
Her work Gain and Loss (2022) comprises six sheets of A3 paper, each featuring intricate geometric compositions rendered in coloured pencil. Fine, radiating lines converge and intersect to form shifting angular structures, creating a sense of movement, depth and visual tension across the series.
Through repetition, colour and precise linework, Kate explores the formal possibilities of drawing, balancing geometric structure with the subtle variations that emerge through the accumulation of marks. Her inclusion in the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award reflects her ongoing engagement with abstraction and the expressive potential of works on paper.
