Joan Ross is featured in Friday Late: Rituals of Becoming at V&A South Kensington, an evening of performances, interactive installations, and films.
As part of the event, Joan’s animated films I give you a mountain and Let’s party like it’s 1815 will be screened on loop in The Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre, Level 2, from 20:15–21:15. Across the two works, Joan's journeys through Australia’s colonial past, employing fluorescent high-vis colours and digital layering to expose the violence, entitlement, and absurdity embedded within colonial histories.
Drawing on historic paintings, ethnographic imagery, and colonial records, Joan reanimates the past to critique the enduring impacts of dispossession, environmental damage, and exploitation. Through this lens, Friday Late: Rituals of Becoming considers how ritual, memory, and collective experience continue to shape contemporary life and our understanding of the world around us.
