Carly Dodd is included in Future Country, the second iteration of the Country Road + NGV First Nations Commissions initiative, with her work Great Grandfather Seth and Great Nanna Bella.

Bringing together eight emerging First Nations artists and designers, Future Country celebrates land, legacy, community and cultural continuity through new commissions that honour ancestral knowledge and envision Indigenous futures.

Drawing on archival photographs of her great-grandparents, Carly reclaims images historically shaped by colonial documentation, transforming them into large-scale photographs printed onto possum skin. Traditionally used for warmth and protection, the material returns these images to Country, family and Ceremony, restoring a sense of connection, care and cultural continuity.

Through collaboration with her family, Carly honours her ancestors while creating space for intergenerational knowledge sharing and the continuation of cultural practice.
