Carly Dodd is included in Rigg Design Prize 2025: Next in Design, presented at the NGV, Australia.
The landmark tenth edition of Australia’s most prestigious contemporary design prize celebrates the work of early-career Australian designers, bringing together ambitious practices that explore new possibilities in materiality, form and function.
Created in collaboration with her five-year-old niece Harper, Carly’s work explores the passing down of cultural knowledge through self-expression, play and adornment. Combining traditional weaving techniques with materials including raffia, ribbon and wire, the work brings together woven wearables alongside versions designed and drawn by Harper, scaled to her height.
Through this intergenerational collaboration, Carly reflects on how children engage intuitively with identity and storytelling, celebrating cultural continuity, resilience and the evolving ways Indigenous knowledge is shared and kept alive.
