N.Smith Gallery is a contemporary art gallery based in Surry Hills, working with a dynamic group of artists across exhibitions, art fairs, and projects in Australia and internationally. We are focused on building meaningful relationships between artists and collectors, and creating opportunities that support long-term artistic careers.

As the gallery continues to grow, we are expanding our team across sales and client engagement. We are looking for thoughtful, driven individuals who are confident working in a fast-paced environment, and who bring a strong interest in contemporary art and culture.

Below are two roles that sit at the centre of our sales function, each playing a distinct but complementary part in shaping the gallery’s next phase.

 

 

Sales Associate.

 

Overview

The Sales Associate plays a central role in driving revenue and building long-term collector relationships at N.Smith Gallery. Working closely with the Founder & Director, this role focuses on converting enquiries into sales, nurturing existing clients, and expanding the gallery’s collector base both locally and internationally.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Sales & Client Development

  • Lead sales conversations across exhibitions, art fairs, and private enquiries
  • Convert inbound enquiries into acquisitions through timely, considered communication
  • Build and maintain relationships with collectors, advisors, and institutions
  • Develop tailored artwork recommendations for clients
  • Manage and grow a personal client list
  • Travel to art fairs and offsite projects required

Strategy & Pipeline Management

  • Maintain and actively manage the sales pipeline, including follow-ups and reporting
  • Identify new sales opportunities across exhibitions, fairs, and offsite projects
  • Work with the Director on pricing strategy, artwork placements, and client targeting
  • Contribute to sales strategy for exhibitions, art fairs, and special projects

Collaboration & Internal Alignment

  • Work closely with Marketing on campaigns, previews, and content that drive sales
  • Liaise with Registrar and Operations to ensure smooth artwork delivery and client experience
  • Support the Director in high-level client engagement and relationship management

 

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in art sales or a similar high-value sales environment
  • Strong understanding of the contemporary art market
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Highly organised with strong follow-through
  • Confident working in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Sales Assistant.

 

Overview

The Sales Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the sales function, ensuring a seamless experience for clients and the team. This role is critical in maintaining organisation, managing front-of-house, and supporting both the Director and Sales Associate across administrative and event-based activity.


Key Responsibilities

 

Sales Administration

  • Manage incoming enquiries and ensure timely allocation and responses
  • Maintain CRM systems, client records, and sales tracking documents
  • Assist with artwork information, catalogues, and sales materials
  • Coordinate follow-ups and support the sales pipeline process

 

Events & Client Experience

  • Plan and coordinate gallery events, openings, and client functions
  • Manage guest lists, RSVPs, and event logistics
  • Ensure a high level of presentation and client experience during events

 

Reception & Front-of-House

  • Act as the first point of contact for gallery visitors
  • Welcome clients and provide an overview of exhibitions and artists
  • Manage the gallery space presentation and daily readiness

 

Team Support

  • Provide direct administrative support to the Director and Sales Associate
  • Assist with scheduling, meeting preparation, and client communications
  • Support general gallery coordination and day-to-day operations

 

Experience & Skills

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Interest in contemporary art and the gallery environment
  • Previous experience in administration, events, or client-facing roles preferred
